Verisign PIP

PayPal Token

I just activated my PayPal/Verisign Fob/Token/Credential at heygabe.pip.verisignlabs.com. I hope that I can make writelarge.com/openid my id, but I'll have to spend some time figuring out how to do that. I think Pip did it. I guess I'll start looking there.

I had been using heygabe.myopenid.com as my OpenID provider, but I got tired of lugging the 128-bit pesudorandom string on my USB Drive that passed as my credential. It basically meant that I didn't get openID on anything I didn't trust to stick a USB drive in. I'm a big fan of OpenID, but I really don't get to use it enough. Live Journal supported it, but there wasn't a way to merge your OpenID account with your LJ account, so I never really used it there. I used it for BarCampMilwaukee.com all the time. I also use it at Icon Buffet.

Anyway, I digress. With the VeriSign Open ID implementation, I can use my Paypal dongle as a second factor of authentication on any OpenID enabled site. In oder to log into to heygabe.pip.verisignlabs.com, I have to give my password and then give them the six digit number that appears on the PayPal Football.Since the Football is on my Keys, the likelihood of having it with me is pretty good.

I supposed I need to get around to installing the OpenID module now. Edit: 10:13 p.m. CST. Done. Log in via OpenID to your heart's content.

Edit: 10:23. I can now use http:writelarge.com as my openID, which will pass me on to Verisign for confirmation. Nice.

What?

I think I am confused. For my OpenID I use an provider (openid.com) so I have http://raster.myopenid.com/ but I just use that as the delegate, and I enter http://rasterweb.net/raster/ into OpenID login forms....

So, what are you doing that is different? Are you acting as your own provider?

Yeah, it looks like I was

Yeah, it looks like I was not as clear as I should have been. I'm simply delegating to Verisign.

Pip appears to be offering his own validation.

Yes indeed

Yes indeed I am. I used to delegate to videntity.org but they went 404 for several hours so I ended up setting up a self-hosted OpenID identity on http://philwilson.org/id/

It was astonishingly straightforward.
